Don’t Mean a Thing Without a Ring

BY NOAH VELASQUEZ

Most NBA fans know how dominate the Chicago Bulls were when they first set the record for the most wins in a single season back in 1995. They did so with the big three of Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Michael Jordan, who is viewed as the best to ever play the game. It was a record that was destined to never be broken, having held up for about two decades. Then a man by the name of Stephen Curry absolutely erupted and has become a force to be reckoned with. He is now in the prime of his career and is already said to be the best shooter in the history of the NBA. However, one player does not make a team great; in fact, in order to become a great team, every player on that particular team has to know their primary role and what they have to do “game in and game out” to become the best team in the history of the NBA.

Alongside Curry are fellow champions Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, whom were both big components to the Warriors championship run last year. They followed last year’s stellar season with an even stronger season this year, starting off by winning their first 24 games. From that point on, I knew this season was going to become a historic run for the Warriors. I still questioned whether or not they would be able to break the Chicago Bulls’ single season game winning record, which was 72 wins and only 10 losses. Everyone knew the Warriors were gunning for the Bulls’ record and in the meantime of it all, they were putting on a show and had one of the most entertaining seasons ever. With one game left in their season, they had a chance to break the record that was set by the Bulls; however, it would be decided in their last game of the season where they would face an injury depleted team in the Memphis Grizzlies. They did end up breaking the record to become the best regular season team to ever play.

However, everything they accomplished does not matter in the playoffs because it’s the start of a new and more important season, which is the chase for a championship ring. There are 16 games standing in between the Warriors. In order to be known as the greatest team ever, they have to complete the ultimate goal which is to win the NBA championship. If they fail to do so, everything they have accomplished would have been for nothing. I do believe they are going to pick up where they left off and cap off this historic season by dominating in the playoffs and repeating as NBA champions. At the end of the day, they have the best basketball player in the world, and at this moment there is not one team who can stop Stephen Curry.
