Sophomore Dylan Huang was accepted into the Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy at City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment organization. This 10-week-long summer internship that Dylan applied to in January will provide him with hands-on experience to learn about the science and biological world.
According to the City of Hope, “world-renowned physicians and scientists serve as mentors, guiding students in their research, while helping them develop other critical professional skills.” Students will also participate in courses, seminars and workshops. The participants will receive a stipend of $4,500 for their work.
Huang applied to have activities to do during the summer and since the stipend was encouraging. The application process consisted of filling out questions, a resume, attaching transcripts, a letter of recommendation and other attachments.
“In my application, I mainly focused on my character because I know my achievements. I didn’t do much achievements, but what made me stand out was my character and my discipline and my perseverance,” Huang said.
Huang wants to go into the medical field, so this internship will give him helpful experience in researching with professors on translational medicine. Huang will begin this internship on June 1, providing him with a summer full of medical knowledge.
