Senior Siobhan Esqeruerra, is not only graduating in a few weeks, but will be moving on to bigger and better things. Esquerra has been accepted to the University of Cumberland’s in Kentucky.
Since freshman year Siobhan knew she had to maintain her good grades because she originally planned to achieve a scholarship through her academics. However, Siobhan achieved things she never thought she would during high school. She was a member of varsity wrestling all four years here, and JV volleyball her freshman and sophomore year. Siobhan played volleyball in middle school but never wrestled before high school. Her friend brought her to wrestling practice freshman year and she said she “really didn’t like it” but still stuck with it. Her junior year, she decided wrestling will be her main sport and dropped volleyball. Among being a part of sports she also won several awards including Most Inspirational student, and Best All-Around student her junior year, taking state in wresting three years, and placing in the top five in the hacienda league.
Over the years, she has grown accustomed to balancing her sports and school work. Her daily routine would consist of school, practice, and then go home to homework. Other than school and sports she likes to volunteer, and just help people in general. She will be majoring in math to become a math teacher. She stated, “I can make the biggest impact on people’s lives being a teacher.” Her biggest accomplishment during high school is taking state senior year. “Even though I didn’t accomplish my goal of being an individual state champion, the lessons I learned is something I’m going to remember.” Her family are her biggest supporters. “They’re very supportive of what I want to do my main motivation is to make them proud.” Her most inspirational person is her mother. She said, “She does so much for people and it’s unnoticed; she does things out of the goodness of her heart.” Along with her most inspirational person, her most inspirational quote is, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.” Her advice for underclassmen is to “Not only excel in sports but understand the life lessons you learn through them and always keep your grades up you can’t always fall back on sports, and make yourself proud.” Esquerra said, “I’m going to miss the school atmosphere, school pride, and how everybody knows each other, just the environment.”
