Aysha Ramirez is a 5’3 freshman outfielder for our Lady Bulldogs varsity softball team. Ramirez has played this sport since the young age of 7; Ramirez always dreamed of one day becoming a great softball player, and if you have been to a recent varsity game, then you know Ramirez isn’t playing around.
“When I was five, I started playing baseball and instantly felt a connection with the sport. Once I turned seven, I started softball and loved it enough to continue with it,” Ramirez said, “My dad inspired me to play by encouraging me to do the best I could do and by coaching me almost everyday when he would come home from work.”
Always striving to achieve more, Ramirez pushed herself to be better even when people told her she couldn’t be any better than she already was. When Ramirez was ten, her team made it to world nationals; at that point, she realized that she could actually make something out of her talents.
“I knew I had it in me to make varsity, but when I saw my name on the list, I was still surprised and excited,” Ramirez said.
Of course, like any high school athlete, Ramirez dreams to take her athleticism to a Division One level. That dream became closer to reality when Ramirez was contacted by Boise State just a few weeks after she contacted them.
“I emailed several colleges a highlight video, such as UCLA, Michigan, ASU and Boise State. About two to three weeks later Boise State replied asking me to go to a few camps and that they would go to a few of my games,” Ramirez said.
Softball does not have a professional level of play, so Ramirez plans to be a pediatrician.
“I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but as I got older, I realized I wanted to work with children especially.”
