Freshman football has had quite a shaky start for the season. With a 1-3-0 record so far, the team has some work ahead of them. But, the question is: what could have gone awry?
“Our team needs to apply more of what we learn in practice,” defensive tackle Isaiah Valencia said.
As an athlete, getting caught up in the moment isn’t the best place to be. With your nerves being tested and the adrenaline rushing, fundamentals aren’t usually the first thing you’d think of. Maybe the feeling of excitement could cause a bit of confusion to some, knowing that an entire school is watching. However, that doesn’t mean the team is weak. Coach Brian Barnes strives to push the team in practice so they can be prepared for their upcoming games.
“This season has been good so far, we’re really working towards league,” Barnes said.
And soon enough, that goal may not be so far away. The team continues to adjust and improve, putting a lot of effort towards practices.
“This season hasn’t been great lately, but okay. I plan on progressing,” quarterback Silas Bravo said.
With the team’s next game coming up this Saturday, there is still work to be done. Mental preparation plays a part, but the rest of the game relies on strategy and effort. The opposing team has not been announced yet, but the home game is at 10 a.m.
“We need better offense, but our defense is okay,” tight end Abraham Manrique said.
This year’s season is far from over. Considering how far the team has come and how fast it continues to progress. You can expect a huge comeback.
