The thing about sports is that at any given moment anything can happen. It’s all about will, determination, and plain and simple who wants it the most. That is exactly what you get with March Madness. March Madness is basically a basketball frenzy in the month of March and early April for both men’s and women’s collegiate basketball. It’s a time of the year that is filled with excitement for many basketball fans including myself. The NCAA tournament is the playoffs for college basketball and it offers a chance for the top teams to display their dominance in front of the world and most importantly it allows the opportunity for a Cinderella story where for instance a team that no one believed had a chance is now one of the few teams left.
The NCAA tournament starts off with 68 teams who were selected by the Division 1 men’s basketball committee based off of their performance throughout the regular season. Once the teams are selected they are then given a seed depending on how good of a team they are seen as and they are put into a bracket. Once this is done the games begin, all of which are nationally televised which gives every team and player the opportunity to have the most fun of their life and show the world what they love to do. But with that opportunity comes both excitement and hardship because if you win the game you remain in the tournament and advance to the next round but if you lose then that’s it, your seasons over and that excitement you once had turns into the pain of an agonizing defeat. March madness is filled with crazy game winners and unknown schools upsetting some of the top schools in the nation. I mean it’s called March MADNESS for a reason because it’s an entire month of madness in the basketball world and I actually feel it often goes overlooked because it’s not at the professional level.
Despite that I believe it is one of the bigger sports events of the year because it offers excitement every second of the way, this is where basketball players all around the world no matter what gender make a name for them self and can ultimately become a tournament legend at any given moment. Just watching the games has its benefits because it shows people that no matter where you came from if you put in the work and never give up then you can do anything you set your mind to.
