Bulldogs shut out Covina Colts 34-0 in season opener

August 24, 2012

Update: Varsity Football forfeited Friday’s win against Covina Colts on Tuesday, August 28 due to an ineligible player.

Hoping for a three-peat CIF Championship this year, Varsity Football defeated the Covina Colts 34-0 at Covina District Field on Friday, August 24. The season opener was televised on Fox Sports West.

Starbucks, is a convenient study spot due to its widespread locations, with the closest to campus located on Vincent Ave. in West Covina. There are perks of picking this cafe as it has free Wi-Fi, and food and beverages like refreshers, which are caffeinated beverages with flavored fruit blends, coffee and snacks for a boost of energy. There are also different sized tables for group or individual study use. At Starbucks, customers commonly work there, providing motivation to also complete their work. Sophomore Brianna Espinoza enjoys studying at Starbucks to study before a big test or assignment. “I enjoy doing my work there because it is very peaceful and they have drinks and snacks, and going with my sister is fun. We talk in the middle of our work and get it done,” Espinoza said.

Anthony Daher shared that high school taught him how to stay positive and open-minded through difficult times. “There was a lot of negativity surrounding me, and it was definitely the people I hung out with, but just knowing that negativity could help like, push me in the right direction filled me with motivation to keep pushing, regardless of whatever happened,” said Daher. This mindset taught him to be more open with others and to stay away from negativity. For Daher his two friends, seniors Matthew Jimenez and Steven Julio also helped to shape him into who he is today. “They set a standard for me, and being alongside them for a good amount of time in my life has set a point in my life to where I have to meet and I want to meet,” said Daher.

She has consistently attended games and practices throughout her high school career. “I’ve always been to every practice. I’ve never missed a game until senior year. I’ve missed one for water polo. I try my hardest,” Vasquez said.

Senior Adrian Vasquez, a four year basketball athlete, advised that diligence in sport pays off and helped lead his team to success during the postseason. “Don't worry, eventually all the hard work will pay off and there is always something to look forward to at the end of the road,” said Vasquez.
