The “Scream” franchise
When it comes to Halloween traditions, many turn to the “Scream” horror movie, directed in 1996 by Wes Craven, that takes place in the small town of Woodsboro, California. A masked killer known as Ghostface begins murdering high school students and a group of friends must use their knowledge of horror movies to unmask the killer.
This movie is rated 7.4 according to IMDb, a popular and comprehensive online database that provides details like plot summaries, cast and crew information, trivia, trailers and user ratings.
”I would recommend the Scream franchise just for being my favorite movie to rewatch every year with my family and friends. I think it’s super funny because I know who the killer is and seeing them interact with the other characters is interesting,” senior Abigail Nunez said.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street”

A movie recommended by Principal Charles Park is “A Nightmare on Elm Street” a horror movie directed by Wes Craven that follows a group of kids in the Midwest who are tormented in their dreams by a disfigured Freddy Krueger due to a combination of his traumatic and abusive childhood, leading to his sociopathic behavior, and his supernatural transformation into a vengeful demon, where he tournaments people in their dreams and they become reality and they are killed. The movie has a rating of 7.4 according to IMDb user rating section.
“It actually is scary. If you can just imagine what it’s about. It’s about dreams. And if dreams are real, and then you wake up and you wake up with SCARY like, that’s very scary,” Park said.
“Terrifier”

The movie “Terrifier” directed by Damien Leone follows killer Art the Clown, who stalks and kills two women in an old apartment. He has no real motive to kill other than that he enjoys inflicting terror and pain and his own twisted amusement. The movie has a rating of 7.7 according to IMDb. The rating comes from people who have watched and have sent their rating to the website.
“It’s like, really interesting, but also, like, very graphic at the same time. But I think it’s very interesting to watch. I watched it two weeks ago with my aunt,” sophomore Valerie Edwards said.
“Halloween”

The classic film “Halloween” remains a seasonal staple. Horror movie directed by John Carpenter. The plot follows a killer named Michael Myers (Nick Castle) who murders his 17-year-old sister, Judith. Later, he is sent to jail and 15 years later, while being transferred, he escapes and looks for new victims in his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois.
The movie has a rating of 7.7 on IMDb, with some on the site saying, “The original Halloween from 1978 is the best one for me. It’s just different here. I just have a soft spot for old horror movies and older movies in general, “ said reviews on IMDb
“It’s Halloween and it fits the setting and I personally like the movie and it just fits for the season,” junior Damian Alvarez said.
“Halloweentown”

A kid-friendly Halloween movie directed by Duwayne Dunham, the movie follows three siblings, Marnie, Dylan and Sophie Piper. They discover they are witches and wizards and travel to Halloweentown, a magical place where their grandmother is a powerful witch. They help defeat an evil man trying to turn the whole town evil.
The movie has a rating of 6.5 on IMDb. With some reviews saying, “This is the best Disney holiday movie of all time. I enjoyed this movie as much as my kids did! Everything seemed to work for this movie. Good directing, incredible sets, great writing. It’s too long to wait until Halloween every year to see it.”
“My favorite movie is Halloween Town. It’s a Disney movie. I don’t know. Just like nostalgic. I used to watch it when I was little,” sophomore Jenaya Foster said.
