The National Honor Society hosted their seventh annual talent show on Friday, March 8 with emcees senior Andrew La, junior Gabrielle Oates, and senior Amber Tang. The three judges, Dean Lisa Maggiore, math teachers Maya Maroun and Erik Castro evaluated all eleven performances at the end of the night.
Contestant Giovanna Alfaro kicked off the event, and sang “Read All About it” by Scottish artist Emeli Sande. The second performance consisted of a dance number by Weib Schwarz accompanied by Nicolas Durian. Following the dance routine, Lauren Cabico sang “Melt My Heart to Stone,” by Adele. The fourth performance proved to be dual ensemble with an acoustic rendition of “Call Me Maybe” as well as “Let’s Get Rich” sung by Valerie Khau and Jan Ventulan. Janel Joy Malabad went next, showcasing a mellow-natured hula dance. Michael Townsend and Gabriel Mendoza were the eighth performance of the night, and sang “Light Years Away.” Pauline DePano, Lanli Su, and Marie Galvez’s routine immediately followed, which consisted of moving cups in a manner that created rhythms from famous Disney cartoons such as “The Litter Mermaid,” “Tangled,” “Mulan” and “The Lion King.” Kevin Lai and Brandon Olivares put on a duet of “I Won’t Give Up,” originally sung by Jason Mraz; this was followed by singing-dancing duo Kevin Lai and Brandon Olivares performing to Justin Timberlake’s latest single “Suit and Tie.” The final performance of the night was Breanna Herrera’s with her cover of “Stay” by Rihanna in which she played the piano.
