This year’s Renaissance Collegiate rally was based on Nickelodeon’s “Avatar: The Last Air Bender” and “The Legend of Korra.” In “Avatar: The Last Air Bender”, Aang, the avatar, or master of all of the elements, struggles on his journey to defeat the fire king with Sakka, Katara, his flying lemur Momo, and his flying bison Appa. Eventually, Aang gains the knowledge needed to disarm the fire nation king without killing him, bringing back the balance to the world.
During the rally, Band and Color Guard performed, followed by Pep Flags, Dance-Drill and All Male.
Tireless Teachers Lia Brugger, Grace Kim, Josefina Steinmetz, Maya Maroun, and Joe Osterberg danced in a video presented to the school by Renaissance.
Sophomore Katharine Tong said, “The video of tireless teachers dancing was very exciting.”
The MC’s Arianna Tan and Sana Souratha played the antagonists Katara and Sokka. Alivin Bui and Vanessa Galvan played Aang and Korra, who popped out of the signature iceberg that was presented in the “Avatar: The Last Air Bender.
Crests of the four tribes were hung on each section of every class. The theme itself represents harmony of the classes working together to keep balance and to remain as one school.
“Korra is trying to find her way to the Avatar state and inner peace, hence representing the average student trying to achieve their college goal. The avatar was suppressed of his knowledge of how to master all of the elements, and that connects with college because we need to learn more as we go on and we’re technically learning the elements, and how college is going to be, so when Aang goes on his adventures to master his powers, it’s kind of like us going on a sneak-peak adventure of our journey to college,” said Tong.
The rally ended with West CovAires singing the Alma Mater.
