Ariana Grande’s latest pop album “Eternal Sunshine” was released March 8. This is her first album in almost three years with her album “Positions” being her last full release in 2021. The album takes listeners on a story of her heartbreaks and relationships that she has had to deal with the past few years of her life.
The album starts with heartbreaking songs about relationships and ends with the possibility of trying to find a new relationship. It shows the progression of getting over a devastating relationship and having to find her independence again in the world and eventually love. The album is a story of what a person goes through in a relationship that many people can relate to with their own experiences of heartbreak.
“I appreciate that this album has a concise story and is a concept album and you can tell the progression as the album goes on,” said junior Alejandro Martinez Cavazos.
The progression of the album showed the emotional upheaval of what Grande was going through in her life. The first song in the album “intro (End of the World)” gives the first hint that she is talking about a past relationship. Going through the process of a breakup with the first lyric being “how can I tell if I’m in the right relationship,” the album then progresses into the song “Bye” as the lyrics portray that she is done with her relationship and making it official to everyone, especially the public.
A favorite of the public is the song “Eternal Sunshine,” being another song about the breakup, but more focused on the eternal aspect of getting over the person who you shared the deepest of level feelings and topics with.
The album has more of a different style compared to Grande’s previous albums. It is still a pop album, however it holds some songs with more of a R&B feel to them not having her high singing pitch in them. The singing is completely different not having as much of a soul sound and more of a sultry vibe to it. This album is Grande’s first album that she mainly wrote and produced herself. Grande has personalized and developed this new album to make it more her own and personal.
“…in the older days where she was given songs rather than writing them herself this album is very personal and overall it made the album better,” said Cavazos.
Many of Ariana Grande’s fans complained that the album is much shorter compared with previous albums as it only had 13 songs. Although it’s shorter it gives more of a personal aspect to the album and doesn’t overwhelm the audience with unnecessary songs to be able to get her point across. She is able to tell her story and what this recent change in her life has done in a concise and personal way.
