Last Thursday at the monthly House of Representatives meeting, one of our own teachers and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) coordinator, Mrs. Grace Ahn, talked about the nonprofit organization.

WASC ensures that public schools are up to standard in different ways such as the general education, facilities, and school culture. Teachers from different schools visit to see if the school is up to par.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to reflect on ourselves, as teachers we kind of maybe get in the motive this is what I do and maybe not necessarily think really deeply about how we can improve,” said Ahn.

WASC is a six year process that includes school visits, progress checks, and action plans. Students were given a questionnaire to fill out regarding the school for WASC to review them and evaluate them.

“It gives students and parents a voice to say this is what we want, these are the changes, these are the wonderful things,” said Ahn.

WASC is slated to come in the spring of 2024.
