Diego Portillo has been on the boys swim team for three consecutive years. As a senior on the team, Portillo plans on leading his teammates and himself to success this season. Portillo has worked up a strong status on the team.
“I swim the 300 freestyle, one hundred breaststroke, and for the relays I swim the four-by-five and the four-by-100 (freestyle),” Portillo said.
As their season is starting, Portillo is working on finding an equal balance for his schoolwork and getting in shape for his last season with the team.
“I feel that because of my AP classes I have struggled to get back in shape but I feel like I’ve made a big progress & I am looking forward to beating all my times,” Portillo said.
Aside from finding a balance, Portillo has already had a few personal accomplishments to start the season off.
“I feel like my breast stroke technique has improved a lot thanks to the new coaches and I’m proud to say that my teams sportsmanship has increased a lot, also thanks to the new coaches, Coach Diana Coach Ray, Coach Alex and Coach Kyle,” Portillo said.
Portillo has also set additional goals for himself and his team to fulfill throughout their season.
“Personally I really want to be able to make it into CSF times for 10 breaststroke. As a team I’m really looking forward to being able to come back and being able to say that thanks to these people I’ve had the best year of my high school career with the victories and the fails,” Portillo said.
Portillo wanted to leave his teammates with a few words of encouragement in order to have a successful season.
“You guys are hard workers and I can see that everyday of practice so let’s show these teams what the bulldogs are all about,” Portillo said.
