WCHS Ceramics teacher Stacey Cabon passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16 around loved ones after battling cancer for a number of years. Cabon has been a Fine Arts teacher at WCHS for 5 years and has had an extensive career as a substitute beforehand. Her son Everett is a WCHS alumni who graduated in 2015, as well as her daughter Chloe who graduated in 2017. Cabon is also the sister of English teacher Kim Whitten.
Cabon strived to motivate and encourage her students to unleash their creativity in their projects. She enjoyed assisting students to make their clay projects stand out; junior Derek Daproza was one student that she helped inspire.
“She would always walk around the room complimenting people’s work and was always willing to help if her students needed anything. She was a really nice person, always there for you and always very caring,” Daproza said.
Beyond being an inspiration for ceramic art, Cabon took time to listen to her students’ experiences and guide them to the best of her ability. Whether it be about college applications or actors in movies, she loved being able to talk with her students during studio time as they worked on projects.

“She was really kind and understanding. There were things that Mrs. Cabon said during class that made me feel like she actually understood a lot of the situations that students were in, especially when it came to college admissions,” senior Andrea Aguilar said.
Aguilar remembers how she stayed after class to get help on a project and she was ready to lend a hand. Cabon has left a lasting mark on the students of WCHS, and she will be remembered.
Plans are being made for a memorial service in the future.

Stacy is a beautiful spirit inside and out. My son and Everett (her son) have been friends since age 7. Without Stacy, my son could not have been active in musicals with his friends growing up. It literally took a team of moms to take all our children to these practices. We shared many wonderful memories over the years with our children, Fourth of Julys, jam sessions, talent competitions with the City of West Covina (which our children won), Senior Prom…… So much love, so many fun times, lots of laughter, so many videos and photo ops. I’m just so blessed that I had the opportunity to know her. My heart aches for all the ones left behind because she was such a Presence, with such a love for her family. She had the cutest smile and most contagious laugh. I know she’s in heaven with other Angels like herself. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Love you Stacy. Michele
