For those who are currently playing the mobile game “Pokémon GO,” a fairly recent and  huge update has been released in which the second generation of Pokémon has been added; one of six generations to be added along with the first generation of Pokémon that came with the game’s launch date. The inclusion of the second generation of Pokémon was one many fans of the franchise wanted ever since the first release of the game on July 6, 2016. Although most fans were disappointed at the lack of Pokémon from other generations, they quickly accepted the large task and possible delays that could have been caused should Niantic try to add any more Pokémon other than generation one. But as of Feb. 15, 2017, the release of the 80 generation two Pokémon including Chikorita, Totodile, Cyndaquil and many others were added in the recent update.

Anyone who had previously downloaded the app knows of the preview for the second generation that had included Pichu and Togepi hatching from eggs during the Johto Holiday update that occurred last Dec., with the inclusion of an item select feature while attempting to catch any Pokémon. This update had added berries to game along with the new generation two eggs that had been discovered by Professor Willow, the Pokémon professor of the mobile game, along with the aforementioned item selection menu during the Pokémon encounters, allowing players to chose which Pokéball the player would like to use in order to catch the Pokémon with.

The two new berries that are being added are the Nanab berries and the Pinap berries, berries that will now accompany the lone Razz berry. The nanab berry, a berry that most similarly looks like a bundle of bananas, will be feed to wild Pokémon by the player in order to lower the speed of the wild Pokémon and make catching the Pokémon much more easier. The pinap berry, a berry that resembles a yellow and smooth pineapple, can be used to increase the amount of Pokémon candy, a necessity in order to evolve and level up your caught Pokémon, that will be earned by the player should the player successfully catch the Pokémon afterward. With the new berries, the razz berry can be used in combination with these other berries in order to allow a better Pokémon master experience.

One final addition to the update is the expansion to the player customization menu. The player customization in Pokémon GO had previously lacked any variety to how the player could look in the game with allowing only the bare minimum of different upper wear, lower wear, head wear and shoes. However, in this update the player customization had received a drastic improvement to what it had been before, adding on to the two pairs of shoes, three very similar hats, three almost exactly same shirts and three pairs of black pants. The players weren’t the only ones that received a model change, as the Pokémon also received their shiny models, a 1/8192 chance of encountering a Pokémon with a completely different, or slightly different, colored model.

The Feb.15 update is one of the largest updates to be installed and now that the second generation of Pokémon has finally been added to the game in just under a year, it will now be only a matter of time until the other five generations are added with their respective introductions to items and activities. Have fun players and good luck in becoming the Pokémon Master.
