This year’s Academic Decathlon team was made up of eight members, and seven of them competed. The following seniors are Viola Chow, Ryan Van, Junwei He and Megan Tran. The juniors are Marion Baroi and Diego Portillo. Also, sophomore Saffanat Sumra, and freshman Josh Kuik. This year’s theme was World War II. There were multiple choice exams, three and a half minute prepared speeches, essays, interviews, and math and science exams. With the help of Jennifer Myers and Charles Evans, the students were confident for their competition.
Senior Junwei He earned a gold in economics and science, senior Viola Chow earned a silver in interview, senior Ryan Van earned a bronze in economics and a gold in math, and junior Diego Portillo earned a silver in interview. Sophomore Saffanat Sumra earned a bronze in essay, silver in interview and a gold in science while junior Marian Baroi earned bronze in math. The Academic Decathlon team placed second for the Super Quiz competition and competed against 45 other schools.
During day one on Jan 28 at El Rancho High School, the students did speeches, essays, and interviews. The second day on Feb 4, they participated in various competitions encompassing math, science, economics, language and literature, art, music, social science, and a super quiz relay. Finally, on the third day on Feb 9 at the Quiet Cannon, the students celebrated at the awards banquet. Congratulations, Bulldogs!
