Who is the teacher that has a donut, a lama, and a nectarine as a tattoo? That would be English Honors Teacher Sarah Sanford who has been teaching and advising students for 10 years. This year, she has been recognized and nominated for the English teacher of the year.
In her younger days, she attended Temple City High School. After graduation, she attended PCC, Cal State LA and then APU, majoring in English and hoping to teach and guide students for her future career.
“Giving students a chance to engage, collaborate and just do my best on my lessons makes me love teaching. Getting them to be connected with literature and various readings in my class is what I hope to give to my students,” Sanford said.
For her free time, she loves to spend time with her family,. just simply going to the bookstore with her daughter or watching a movie with her husband is what she enjoys.
Sanford was inspired to become a teacher by the love of literature and wanting to guide students to love it as well.
“I also want my students to find purposeful meanings in reading and writing,” Sanford said.
Sanford loves how students come visit her on their free time before or after school or during nutrition or lunch. She just enjoys spending time with her students.
A couple of Mrs. Sanford’s hobbies are shopping, getting tattoos and reading, which helps with her teaching.
“I love that our school is like a family, I love how they come visit you too and I really do love advising this year as well,” Sanford said.
Sanford was nominated for teacher of the year in the English department for being a solid teacher overall. She enjoys spending time with her students and family, loves her current job as a teacher and continues to advance in her career.
“I’m really excited about just being recognized for what I do. I feel like I do so much for my students and give them so much opportunities to succeed in my class and I continue to do so. I just really enjoy being nominated for what I do. It’s an honor to be recognized by my fellow students and staff members,” Sanford said.
