Recycling Wars is the war between each grade to see who can collect the most amount of cans. WCHS does this to help out the environment around West Covina, and all proceeds go to helping out the campus and school equipment. Students had to take the cans to the circle stage and drop it into a bucket with their class color. This year’s first place went to the junior’s, second place were the seniors, third place are the sophomores, and last place is the freshman.
“We do it every year so each grade can combine the recycling with their spirit points, for students can donate more and earn more spirit points,” senior ASB student Lisette Lamarque said.
The idea for recycling wars came after noticing all the trash around the school’s campus and seeing how much of it was recyclable.
“We thought of a way to recycle but in a fun and new creative way, which led to Recycle Wars,” Lamarque said.
The winning class will win an extra 50 spirit points for their grade. For each bottle you donate, you earn one single spirit point for the grade you’re in.
“All the money we’ve made is going to be used for some new upgrades and additions all around the school; it’s for school enhancements,” Lamarque said.

I think this is really great because it is good for the environment and people can have fun at the same time.

It is a good idea to do recycle wars because we are having fun and being competitive.
