Cast Helps Crowd “Get Shrek’d” at Rally

The cast of Shrek the Musical took over Jan. 23’s winter sports rally with snippets of the play and quick performances. The rally was emceed by the leads, seniors Christian Sandoval as Shrek, Carly McLaurin as Fiona, and Matthew Quintana as Donkey.

Club Rush lineup caters to everyone's interest
At 6:45 p.m., the football team started their usual pregame chant “give me two beats, give me two claps, ooh ah,” to get their players riled up. The evening officially began with the Bulldogs sprinting through the West Covina banner as the cheer team surrounded them and the stands erupted in excitement for kickoff.
Kings conquered for the first time in four years
Graduates throw caps in celebration of the ceremony’s conclusion. “I wouldn't have wanted my chapter at WCHS to end any differently,” said Gabby Gutierrez.

David Beeken retires, leaving a legacy of teaching
Italy is credited as being the birthplace of the Renaissance and host to artistic masterpieces whereas California is more typically known for beaches and national parks. When in Rome you see museums, art, and churches. Even the smallest churches in Rome have many walls of art everywhere that the public can see and take pictures of.

Students vote on ballots and receive “I Voted” stickers to make the voting experience more realistic. Hoang ordered 1,000 stickers in hopes that many would come out to vote. Ballots were later counted by Hoang’s 5th period government students.
Students make a show of democracy in the first school-wide mock election
Sophomore Divine Lane shares her thoughts on the pressures around drug use. Lane credits a part of her worries about drug use to the new and deadly drug, Fentanyl. Teenagers can risk their lives by not knowing if the substances they use are laced. “You now have to be a lot more careful about using drugs because everything is laced and that can always become a big thing. I personally don’t want to encounter that and risk my life for doing it, so I just think it's important to just be careful,” said Lane.
Students combat drug culture on campus
Seniors and an AVID class listen to a representative from VanGuard University providing information about their college and what they have to offer to students. Location-wise some of these schools are very far away… It's just for convenience…You're learning about a school that you might not be able to go to,” said Aguilar.

Senior Sabrina Ayala is crowned Homecoming Queen on Oct. 18. Soon after Ayala was crowned, rumors surfaced about her eligibility and that results were fixed
Controversy surrounds Homecoming coronation
Senior Gabriel Vincent Franco sits at the circle stage and holds a Palestinian flag to raise awareness regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict today. He was anxious to go forward with his plan and discussed it with his parents the night before. “Yesterday I was worried that something would happen, so were my parents… So we talked about it and I thought about it and I came to the decision that I’m not doing anything wrong,” said Franco.
Student expression silenced by administration
Juniors Hazel Borja and Katherine Barbosa-Calel check their social media and message their friends while waiting for school to start. “Phones are crucial to my daily routine… I feel a physical attachment to my phone since it’s so heavily integrated in my everyday routine” said Borja.
