West Covina Varsity girls basketball falls short against South Hills in the Queens of Cameron Game on Wednesday Dec. 3 in the gym.
At the end of the first quarter, the score was 13-10, it was still anyone’s game but South Hills started to advance quickly. Tension was felt by everyone in the gym and each team wanted to win the important game.
“We really wanted to win. Its been a long-time rivalry and we really thought we could do it this year. Unfortunately our efforts weren’t enough this time.” said junior Monea Lozano.
By the end of the second quarter the score was 34-18 and the gym was almost full with both Bulldogs and Huskies. At the end of third quarter the score was 49-29.
During the last quarter Huskies aim for the hoop, but junior Sharmaine Heartfield pushed the South Hills player giving them a penalty shot.
“It was really loud in the gym and there was a lot of people and support for all the girls from both schools,” said Lozano.
Juniors Karissa McDavis and Brianna Ruelas both shot two pointers. However that was not enough to be named the Queens of Cameron for basketball. With a final score of 56-46, the Lady Bulldogs fought their hardest but had to relinquish the title.
