MISSION STATEMENT

As a publication, WCHS Insight strives to identify and report news-making events, and incorporate journalistic forms, techniques and knowledge. We aim to document the West Covina High School community and the outlying community and to provide an authentic media forum that reflects student voices. As a program, we harbor a safe and accepting environment for all students and staff, and balance functionality and enjoyment within work and outside curricular activities.

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Insight is a high school online news publication that follows the laws and guidelines as protected by and set forth by the First Amendment of the Constitution and California Education Code (EDC) Section 48907 which “guarantees student journalists the right to freedom of speech and press, including the use of bulletin boards, distribution of materials, and publication of official school media, as long as it’s not obscene, libelous, or incites unlawful acts.”

Insight emulates a fast paced, real world work experience where staff members acquire valuable experiences for the future. Being on staff is exciting and rewarding, but it requires dedication, hard work, and commitment. Students in a staff position (Staffers) must understand the great responsibility, maturity and good judgment that comes with publishing the school’s online news publication. All staff members are held to high journalistic and behavioral standards, and are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the program.
