Of all the trends that spread around the world, twerking is spreading like wild fire. It seems as though every year, a new dance comes out that trends on YouTube and is well known by everyone. Of course we’re all up to date on the latest trends and just like the dougie, jerking, or the harlem shake, twerking has made an impact on the younger generation in just a short amount of time.
The formal definition of “twerking” is dancing to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance. Twerking is much like any other sexual dance move and is viewed as funny yet inappropriate at the same time. Famous singers are well aware of the new trend. For example, Miley Cyrus who has already incorporated twerking in her music video “We Can’t Stop.” Whether it be twerking or any other dance movement, YouTube gives people the opportunity to post anything for the world to see giving them the chance to start a new trend.
The fact that twerking became so popular in just minutes shows how contagious it really is. Everyone around the world has been constantly posting videos or pictures of themselves twerking. A popular saying involving twerking is calling a group of people or friends the twerk team, but just like everything else, twerking is something new at the moment and is predicted to fade away, whether it be sooner or later that is entirely up to the fans. What’s next? Nobody knows, but one thing is for sure: It is the trend that is part of the ongoing cycle of trends.
