The varsity football team played against Diamond Ranch at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on Oct. 25, a special opportunity for the team.
On the day of the game, football and cheer teams left at 9:45 a.m. to get to the stadium by 11 a.m. Shortly after, the buses for student attendees left at 11 a.m. and arrived by 12:30 p.m.
Not all schools were invited to play at SoFi, however West Covina did.
“You have to be pretty competitive and it has to be a good game,” Park said.
That week’s practices differentiated from the usual as the team were in a time constraint and needed to quickly get into the game mindset.
“We kind of set up our practice to make sure that we were setting up like straight from kickoff to defense to offense and making it fast paced,” senior and varsity player Josiah Joseph said.
The first half ended with the score, 13-7, with Diamond Ranch being in the lead.
Throughout the second half, West Covina scored four touchdowns and Diamond Ranch fell behind and did not score any more points after the first half.
The game ended at 3:36 p.m. with Bulldogs ultimately winning the game with a gap of 35-13.
The victory brought pride to both Head Coach Bai Kabba and the players since the football team was recognized for their accomplishment.
“It’s a big win. We needed to win this football game to put us in a position to, at the very least, have a share of the conference title,” Kabba said.
Saturday’s experience at SoFi Stadium was memorable for the football team as they head on to compete in their final league game against Northview High School this Thursday.
