On Sept. 24, Associated Student Body (ASB) revealed the homecoming theme on the school’s Instagram page. “Fairy Tales”, incorporates tales such as “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Three Little Pigs”. The process was not simple, as the theme was chosen through ASB, Link Crew and Renaissance meetings and discussing the theme at after-school meetings. The theme was prepared to satisfy the school’s standards, using the creativity from all leadership teams, creating various ideas that go along with the theme.
Students from ASB, Link Crew, and Renaissance were split into multiple groups, assigned by a random generator. In their groups, they input their ideas into separate Google Slides and then, came up with ways to defend their idea. Finally, they present their slides. After presenting, students from each group vote on the theme in a Google Form.
Sophomore and second year ASB member Gabriella Wratten has never picked the homecoming theme with other leadership groups and this year’s process was changed to ensure a more equal representation.
“In our table groups, this year, we just all picked one theme… then we represented it… Last year was just ASB that voted on one theme,” Wratten said.
Since the process was different this year, after presenting their ideas, each group had to take into consideration other ideas like “Arabian Nights” and “Rapunzel”, but ultimately settled on fairy tales.
Renaissance member and junior Samantha Sevilla was a part of the group that pitched the fairy tales theme. Everyone agreed on the theme because it is convenient for ideas and decorations.
“It was just one of the options that we felt it was easy to do, and also we knew that there was gonna be a lot that we can do with it,” Sevilla said.
Other themes that were highly suggested, but weren’t chosen, were “Tangled”, “Rio”, and “Arabian Nights” because there wasn’t much to work with based on those themes compared to fairy tales. What made fairy tales stand out amongst the other options was its diversity since it included more genres within its actual theme, ranging from more than just a single movie or story. ASB president and senior Hannah Truong shares the opinions that leadership had regarding the flaws of other themes.
“So, like, a lot of people wanted to do ‘Tangled’ and ‘Arabian Nights’, things like that, but, like, those are not easily split between the classes,” Truong said.
Instead, there were more themes inside the actual theme of fairy tales such as “Jack and The Beanstalk” and “Hansel and Gretel”. This ultimately made it easier for each year’s class council to choose their own type of fairy tales.
“Yeah, we chose fairy tales because it had more of, like, a wide variety of different sections of different fairy tales in each thingy,” Wratten said.
The theme is useful for other leadership teams to use in the preparation of homecoming from creating posters to making booths suited to the theme.
This theme was unique as it was a choice that not only differentiated from previous years, but also showed its originality from the variety of clothes that could be worn for the occasion, highlighting the leadership teams’ thought process and dedication that went into picking the theme.
Senior Milagros Martinez, who has been to homecoming for all her years in high school expresses her love for the theme’s creativity. There are many opportunities for students to work around the theme.
“Because it’s not just narrowed down to princesses. It’s so much fun. So much room for creativity. Just, like, dresses and guys’ clothes, and HOCO proposals even,” Martinez said.
“I’ve been here for four years, and I feel like the theme is very different. Like, we’ve never gotten really, fairy tales, princess vibes. My first year, it was Tim Burton, so it was kind of spooky. And then sophomore year, it was Las Vegas, and last year, mythology. I feel like we haven’t done a homecoming theme that’s really princessing, because when you think fairy tales is, like, princess,” Truong said.
Overall, the process was an experience for leadership to come together and create a homecoming theme that was suitable for the school. Link Crew member and senior, Halai Torres, agreed that this year’s planning process highlighted the overall teamwork of all the leadership teams.

“The process of planning out the theme was fun… Together we created the theme using our differences and creativity,” Torres said.
The theme is exactly what students are hoping for after seeing many different themes throughout the years.
“Yeah, I like the homecoming theme, and I like that it’s just a fun, cute theme, and I’ve always kind of wanted a theme like this since freshman year,” Martinez said.
Students show their satisfaction to the reveal of the theme, building up anticipation to the big day.
With Homecoming approaching Saturday, the leadership teams are spending hours and going through a time-consuming process to make sure the week’s events meet the school’s standards. ASB even shares a little bit on what’s to be expected for homecoming this year.
“Fun, very bright color,” Truong said.
“Yeah, and there’s gonna be a lot of new, different things that we haven’t done like years before and now we’re doing it,” Wratten said.
