Seniors Madison Vasquez and Steven Julio have been recognized as CIF Southern Section Student-Athletes of the Year as part of the 37th statewide Annual Academic Awards Program. This honor is awarded to only 376 students each year from over 500 high schools. These students were selected for demonstrating outstanding academic and athletic achievements.
Vasquez has been involved in swimming and water polo for four years, serving as water polo captain through her junior and senior years. She is active in campus programs such as Link Crew for two years and AVID for four years, currently serving as the secretary for Link Crew. Receiving the honor of CIF Southern Section Student-Athletes of the Year was a significant recognition of her time and commitment to the campus.
“Sometimes it does get really difficult to, like, come home after you’re in the water and do homework, so it definitely feels like an accomplishment,” Vasquez said.
Julio has been involved in varsity Basketball for four years, Cross Country for two years, Key Club for a year, Geo Club for two years, and Red Cross for two years. He has been playing basketball since he was six years old and has been doing peer counseling for three years. His involvement around campus has helped him learn more about his passions, and Julio expressed that the award was something he was proud of.
“It’s an amazing accomplishment that isn’t given to many and I will remember and cherish this award for the rest of my life,” Julio said.
CIF Southern Section Student-Athletes of the Year recognized Vasquez and Julio for the efforts they put in for the campus throughout their high school career.

“It makes me proud that my years of hard work didn’t go unnoticed,” Julio said.
