Beginning the 2023-2024 school year, Christine Vo, former math teacher, assumed a new position as ASB director.
Vo began her career as an on-campus teacher six years ago teaching math. However, after five years of teaching, Vo explored a new career path outside of in-person education. She took up a job in human resources doing instructional design where she designed online lessons and videos for a company that provided digital learning.
After a year’s absence from school, Vo explained how in being offered the opportunity to return to the school, she felt nervous at first. She explained how her observation of the impact Melanie Wong, former ASB director and current assistant principal, had on the school that motivated her to take the position. Vo knew the job required someone who understood the culture of the school.
“Through the time of me being here as a student, as a teacher and as an advisor, I knew this was something that would fit me as a person but also fit the school,” said Vo.
As a deep core value, Vo is highly motivated by constant self growth and improvement because she sees that it transfers to all of the people in her environment who can then take inspiration from her ambition.
“Ms. Vo is a great leader, I’ve only known her for a little bit, but she’s really cool. You can always go to her for anything because she’s always there for you, she’s a great advisor” said senior Austyn Catano.
Vo said her daily schedule consists of waking up early to exercise and have breakfast or lunch with her husband, all before work. Then, she heads to school where she will be working on campus typically until about 8 p.m. everyday.
“My favorite part is putting all that time into the events that we plan, getting the kids to do the work and seeing our vision come to life when the events come. It makes me very happy and excited to continue,” said Vo.
Senior Gabrielle Manuel explains how although she felt nervous at first to have a new director, she feels that everyone in ASB has quickly grown comfortable and enjoys growing closer to Vo as a person and as a leader.
“She definitely pays attention to all of the small, meticulous details we have to do, but is also really good at adapting and improvising when we’re doing bigger events, so she’s doing very well. We even have inside jokes with Vo and she’s a person that anyone can go to talk to” said Manuel.
Only a few months into the new career, Vo feels enthusiastic and passionate about being a director, saying that WCHS can expect her to be activities director for the years to come.
“I felt like this is not a job where I just do it for one to two years, it’s a job where it’s like you gotta keep going,” said Vo.
