WCHS celebrates its graduating seniors in the Class of 2018 Graduation Ceremony on June 7, 2018 at Walnut High School Stadium. 519 seniors walked onto the field and were greeted by their friends and family in the stands for the pinnacle of their high school career. The Class of 2018 was welcomed to the field by a performance of “Pomp and Circumstance” by the WCHS Symphonic Band. After the graduates paraded around the field and took their seats, the ceremony commenced with the Flag Ceremony, a moment of silence dedicated to WCHS alumni Ruben Velasco, and the National Anthem performed by the WCHS Choral Department.
Principal Stephen Glass addressed the graduating class and honored members of the Board of Education before recognizing students with chords. Many students were recognized for receiving honors from the Summa Cum Laude cord to the Senior Medallions. The speech concluded introducing the next speaker, Valedictorian Kenneth Vuong.
“Because we aren’t defined by a grade on a paper, but what we do when a grade isn’t assigned,” Vuong said.
Vuong was followed by ASB Vice President Jamie Osuna who led the annual Candle Rose Ceremony and Salutatorian Nathan Han’s address to the Class of 2018. Glass certified the graduation of the class and introduced the counselors to initiate the presentation of diplomas.
With one last Alma Mater and the Ceremony of Tassel let by ASB President Kevin Phan, the Class of 2018 Graduation Ceremony concluded with the acceptance of the Class of 2018 by WCUSD Board of Education President Michael Flowers. Congratulations to the Class of 2018!
