Graduation is the final and most monumental event for seniors ending their high school careers and moving on to another milestone in their lives. As the seniors walk out in their caps and gowns, they are led by top juniors that will succeed them: the Honor Guard. The top juniors in their class are invited to participate in the prestigious honor of ushering the seniors during graduation to their seats. Not only do they provide directions to the class before them, but the Honor Guard has a chance to visualize the event of graduation firsthand and be inspired to continue working hard in anticipation for their own diploma.

Honor Guard Coordinator Kimberly Segura is proud to have helped lead the Honor Guard and to work with them in rehearsals to ensure that the seniors are directed correctly and to make the experience one to remember for the juniors.

“I think that leading the graduates in on graduation really sets the standard and sets the juniors up for what they are going to become. It is also a way to highlight the students who have achieved high standards,” Segura said.

Honor Guard has already ushered the seniors into Bethany Church on June 2 and lead the seniors on their graduation night on June 7 at Walnut High School. In order to participate in such a prestigious event, juniors must be in the Top 30 of their class and have availability to attend rehearsals. Candidates are chosen the month before graduation in order to prepare for the upcoming baccalaureate and graduation of that year’s seniors.

Students among the Honor Guard are some of WCHS’ most intelligent and diligent students that are given an opportunity to experience graduation and visualize the reward of their hard work and what they will achieve the next year.

“I am happy to lead the Honor Guard and I look forward to working with them ,” Segura said.
