You Only Live Once. That can apply to many people in this world. It is a phrase that can help one move on with their life and realize that your life is as special as anybody else.
The phrase, “You Only Live Once” was made popular by The Strokes by their opening track from their album named “First Impressions of Earth”. When the song was created, The Strokes urged their fans to call in and request this song. They used the phrase YOLO so their new single could spread out to the public by mouth more easily.
The phrase stuck with people as an invention of the Strokes, until someone more recent used the phrase to their own advantage. On November 15, 2011, a new single known as “The Motto” came out to the public. The song was sung by artists Drake and Lil Wayne. During the chorus, Drake introduced the phrase back to the public, and ever since then it has glued even more to the brains of hip hop listeners.
“You only live once, that’s the motto, YOLO.” Those were the creative words quoted by famous artist Drake for his fans to once again spread to the new generation. Since then, the abbreviation has been the motto for most of his followers.
