With a tremendous amount of work and studying, the WCHS Academic Decathlon team was able to place 3rd in their last competition at El Rancho High School.
Senior Diego Portillo has been on the team for two years and enjoys being a part of it because of all the new learning experiences it has offered.
“Academic Decathlon is a group of people who study seven topics; get a speech ready and also read a book all to be tested on. Along with the test, there comes an interview, an essay and a speech; then we compete. There is also a Super Quiz which involves being tested on all of the topics,” Portillo said.
The Academic Decathlon team will not be competing in any competitions for the rest of this school year, but their intelligence and legacy will continue to thrive with many years to come.
“Academic Decathlon is a great way to start learning about different countries and subjects outside of school at the same time. With this, it shows colleges how much you really want to learn,” Portillo said.
