The role of a coach does not end on the field. Coaches not only have the ability to motivate their players, but also provide them with a positive role model. Players oftentimes look up to their coach for guidance and support. West Covina High school is not only saying goodbye to another teacher, but an important coach as well.
Physical education teacher Dan Woodward is retiring after 14 years of teaching. Woodward began his teaching career as a P.E. teacher for Edgewood High School in 1995. During his eight years at Edgewood, he also coached basketball and softball. In 2003, he joined the WCHS staff where he taught physical education, and was a coach for both football and softball.
“I enjoyed interacting with all of my students, colleagues, and all the memories I made coaching football and softball,” Woodward said about what has motivated him in his teaching career.
Woodward has many things planned for his retirement. He plans on being a substitute teacher a few days a week. In addition, he is looking forward to babysitting his grandkids. He also plans on doing the things he loves, such as traveling and playing golf.
