Artwork and theatre go hand in hand with each other because the actors and actresses are trying to make art in their performances. The entire cast of “In the Heights”, a musical production about the Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City, is practicing hard to make the show come alive. Not only are the performers giving the musical life, but the artwork on the flyers are coming alive too.
This year, the musical’s advertising level has increased because now they have posted pictures of the lead roles on their flyers.
“This was a concept that Mr. Wigglesworth and I found intriguing and feel that it would draw more audience members to the show,” Theatre Director Kim Segura said.
The flyers are definitely a head turner filled with color and life. There are six flyers that have come out so far, and the seventh one is a combination of all six main characters in the musical. Brenda Galvan, Samantha Solis, Vanisia Sanchez, Jaylen Taylor, Justin Larkin, and Jordan Floyd are the students featured in the artwork on the flyers.
“The flyers are colorful and creative interpretations of how the play is going to be,” cast member Jaime Osuna said. These flyers were made by Nicole Bernardini, a graphic designer who also makes booklets for the West Covina Choral Department.
To catch these amazing performers live, tickets are on sale now and the performances will be from Jan 26 to 29. This is a show you wouldn’t want to miss!
