WCHS welcomes our new assistant principal, Irma Lemus. Lemus is already excited to spend the school year with us.
“I like that fact that students are proud to come to this school. Students take pride in this school and people are very kind, respectful and understanding. It is also is shown in the staff,” Lemus said.
Lemus has come a long way before she finally came to West Covina. She worked at Los Angeles Unified School District, Jordan High School in Watts and a small high school which was an iPad School in LA Unified (which means every student is given an iPad) called Public Services Community High School. After Lemus earned her master’s degree at Pepperdine University, she moved to Compton Unified as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction.
Because Lemus worked with students who lived in urban areas, she was surprised to see how spirited WCHS was.
“There are a lot of activities which you do not really see in other high schools (especially in high schools in more urban areas for many reasons), and there is a lot of school spirit shown from students and teachers,” Lemus said.
Lemus can not wait to see how the rest of the school year goes. She is glad to be here and make a difference in the students’ lives.
“I am happy to be here because I enjoy working with students and making a difference in the lives of children. That is the reason why I went into teaching, and if I can make WCHS better then I have done my job,” Lemus said.
