A new face to students recently came back to West Covina High School after leaving for five years to work at Edgewood High School. Rick Bernard, a science teacher and department chair for science, just came back to where he worked for fourteen years. Bernard explained how different the environment was from Edgewood to West Covina, he said Edgewood was a “much smaller community” and West Covina was like “The Big City.”
Bernard worked at West Covina for a total of 20 years, so coming back wasn’t new to him, especially since he knew a lot of people.
Something interesting about Bernard is that he suffers from Tourette’s, a nervous disorder that he has dealt with ever since he was young. With his disorder Bernard has set up a camp for kids who also have Tourette’s, and have dealt with it. Lastly, Bernard said he was on Discovery Channel with his camp which he thought was very cool since he was on TV.
