Adam Varnes is one of 14 new staff members who teaches Integrated Math I.
Varnes was excited to become part of the staff.
“It’s an honor because this is like ‘the’ school to work at,” Varnes said.
And so far, the school has lived up to this expectation and impressed him.
“I like how it’s a big campus and the pride in the students for their school is awesome,” Varnes said, “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Varnes’ history includes attending three colleges and being a student teacher at Edgewood Middle School, all of which differ from what he admires about WCHS. Varnes attended Cal State Fullerton for his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Cal State Long Beach for his bachelor’s in sports, and Azusa Pacific for his bachelor’s in teaching. Although Varnes was a student teacher at Edgewood Middle School, this is his first year of being a full-time teacher.
Math is important to Varnes, and that’s the reason he teaches it. It even helped motivate him to become a teacher in the first place.
“I love math. I even used to tutor my brother’s friends, and I felt that I could make math understandable,” Varnes said, “I care about how this generation uses math in the real world and how math can be helpful throughout their lives.”
