One of the many new additions to Bulldog Country is new math teacher Patricia Vandenberg. Although Vandenburg is new to West Covina, she is not new to teaching. She has been teaching for the past 10 years at Pomona Catholic High School. Not only was she a math teacher there, but she was the activites director and produced the yearbook.
“I love this school,” Vandenberg said. “The school spirit is amazing, teachers and administrators have been so welcoming and supportive, and the students are great.”
Even though Vandenberg is a math teacher, she used to struggle in the subject. However her first job was tutoring students in math. Therefore she had to learn to teach them.
“When I helped one kid understand a difficult problem, the moment clicked for me. I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Since I struggled, I knew where the students had trouble. My goal this year is to become an even better math teacher and really get into the school spirit. I see everyone into the school spirit and it is very heartwarming to see a school so close,” said Vandenberg.
She has never seen anything like Bulldog Country before.
Vandenburg has been teaching for many years, and she loves the new math system better than the old one.
“It makes more sense for students to be successful in the future. It makes students understand it a lot better just to see how everything is interconnected.” said Vandenberg.
Besides school, she loves to go off road camping, scrapbooking, crafting, and going on Pinterest. If she’s not doing any of those things, she is spending time with her kids.
