WCHS is proud to recognize Roel Bonayon as teacher of the year for the special education department. Bonayon has been teaching for four years, and two of them have been as a Bulldog. His motives for working with kids with special needs are for many rewarding reasons.
“I believe in social justice and I also believe in equity as well as equality, but mostly equity. It is a very rewarding job to be able to help others, that’s why I got into special education,” said Bonayon.
Bonayon is being recognized for this award because he is dedicated, passionate and committed to education.
“It was very flattering and it’s nice to be affirmed for your efforts and recognized for it, I share this with my colleagues who work tirelessly,” said Bonayon, “Teaching has impacted my life in so many ways, it is basically my life. My wife is also in education, not in the classroom, so that is all we do. We are in education all year long along with summer school, and it has given me a lot of resources to improve my life and has made my horizons endless. It’s a great opportunity.”
Some of his interests include camping, and collecting stamps along with sports memorabilia.
“On my spare time I do wood work and carpentry in my house,” said Bonayon.
Bonayon believes he is being recognized for his hard work and efforts in making the WCHS special education department the best that it can be.
