Ruby Loya was selected for 2015 Classified Employee of the Year. She is the secretary in the front office and she is also in charge of the substitute teachers’ schedules. She takes care of payroll and does many other miscellaneous duties.
What she likes most about her job is that she gets to work with everybody, from students to teachers and parents.
Loya was excited about how her coworkers chose her for employee of the year.
“I was actually very humbled by it; it was unexpected,” she said.
Loya believes that she was chosen because everyone knows her and she is a visible face in the office.
Loya graduated high school in Montebello and went to Mt. San Antonio College with a Registered Veterinary Technician degree. She has been in the field for three years and about 1.5 years in WCUSD.
First, she worked as a correctional officer for five years. Then, she became a 911 dispatcher.
On her free time, she catches up with friends for dinner and participates in the Pasadena Triathlon, which she is currently training for. Even though her favorite food is pizza, she looks forward to a healthier lifestyle in the future.
Loya left her job as a 911 dispatcher to come to WCHS because she started raising her daughter on her own. She also has a dog named Panda whom she loves just like a son.
“I dedicate my time to my daughter.” She jokingly continues with, “I don’t have time for a personal life.”
