A small group of survivors will fight their way through anything in this zombie apocalypse that’s destroying lives all around. This American horror drama television series is based on the comic book series of the same name, “The Walking Dead.”
Premiering on Oct. 31, 2010, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” first takes place in the Atlantic metropolitan area where the main character Rick Grimes, being a sheriff, wakes up one day in a hospital, all alone, completely lost, and confused.
He then discovers that his whole town is vacant, including his home. Rick does whatever he can to find his way back to his family and to uncover what has happened to his town while he was unconscious in the hospital.
Each season surprises fans with new bold characters and the unexpected losses. The characters are all different from each other with different personalities and skills that makes it easy for fans to relate to. I think this is also why it can be tough to see one of the characters die in this show, because the fans get so connected and into every episode.
Not only do we see the different stories of every character, we also see the various obstacles that this group of survivors goes through. As if trying to survive in a world of zombies isn’t enough, Rick and the rest of his group are forced to exterminate the Governor and all of his people, the survivors and cannibals at Terminus, and the other survivors that they come across that are a threat to their group. They are fighting for their lives not only from the dead but from the living that have gone insane.
Every season presents the characters with a new goal which brings them closer to survival and a place where they can rebuild and start over. The intense ending of every episode leaves the fans anticipating and guessing about the next.
This series is not only about the thrilling action but it also shows that some people can break really easily and others can stay strong and still have faith in humanity. After everything a person has been through, they still have the courage to fight and stand up for what they believe in.
I think the reason that this suspenseful and emotional show has been well received and nominated for many awards is because it does not only show the story of the zombie apocalyptic world, but also the internal conflicts of characters and external conflicts that they have with each other. It expresses that not all people can handle the same situations and this is presented to us through unexpected, thrilling scenes and episodes. I highly recommend this show to teens and adults because you will find a little bit of everything in this series.
