Newsbytes Online sat down with Phuong Hoang for a Q&A about her title as the History Department’s Teacher of the Year.
Q1: How many years have you worked at WCHS?
A: I’ve worked here for nine years.
Q2: Who/what inspired you to be a teacher?
A: All the teachers I’ve had before inspired me to be a teacher because I had a special bond with them and I loved to see how they did things.
Q3: How do you feel about being elected teacher of the year?
A: There are so many other highly qualified teachers and I’m so honored and humbled to be someone chosen.
Q4: Have you done anything else besides teaching?
A: I’ve coached tennis both here and at Nogales High School.
Q5: What do you like to do outside of school?
A: I love spending time with my family and shopping.
Q6: Are you involved in anything else at WCHS?
A: I’m the Leos Club Advisor and the Tennis coach.
Q7: What do you think it takes to become teacher of the year?
A: Doing your job with passion and love. Put 110% into what you do.
Q8: How do you get students to be engaged in what you teach?
A: I relate life connections and show why they are important and relevant to the students.
Q9: What are you hoping to achieve in the future?
A: I just want my students out there and want to see them successful.
