Every day, the first person many see with a smile when they walk in the front office is Classified Staff of the Year, Melinda Clark.
Clark started off as an instructional aid for the West Covina district and later received a job working as an administrative secretary here at WCHS. She is very enthusiastic about her job and her actions show every day.
“My son goes here and I have had two daughters graduate from West Covina High, which is another reason why I am so passionate about my job,” said Clark.
She received this award by working her hardest for the school and helping Principal Alex Rulvacaba as much as possible.
“It feels nice knowing that I am appreciated for the work I do for the school, I appreciate everyone that nominated me. I am honored,” said Clark.
Clark does periodic work throughout the day, such as take phone calls, set up the calendars, taking care of students needs, and managing budgets for the school. Now with Ruvalcaba leaving, Clark is ready to work with the next principal and hopes to have a smooth transition to a new way of running the school.
Clark said,” I am happy for Mr. Ruvalcaba, but I am sad to see him depart because for a couple of years we worked very well together.”
Clark is not all hard work 24/7, she also enjoys reading her favorite author, Dan Brown and spending down time with her kids and grandchildren. She lives with a positive mindset and believes hard work pays off in the end; luckily for her it has, and her hard work has definitely been recognized.
