With doors opening at 6:30, family and friends were lined up outside for the sold out 12th annual Mr. Bulldog Pageant, the Man Behind the Mystery.
Once everyone was settled in their seats, the lights dimmed and the show started. With 17 boys (7 seniors, 7 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 1 freshman) each competed fiercely for the title.
The first walk’s theme was WCHS spirit which consisted of maroon, gold, and lots of Bulldog pride. Senior Adam Escoto walked the runway sporting his track attire while others, like sophomore Jacob Ramirez, were decked out in Bulldog wear. The crowd was going wild, screaming and holding up posters as the handsome contests worked the runway.
As the second walk began, the contestants dressed up as inspired by their future dreams and occupations. Some of the boys walked out as animal veterinarians, stock brokers, firemen, anchor men, and cartoon artists.
As the models got comfortable with the audience, they shared their fears. Senior Kevin Sanchez shared his fear to the judges as being afraid of getting pooped on by the seagulls during lunch.
As the crowd and judges start to learn more and more about the 17 contestants, the boys walked out hand-in-hand with their best friends. Junior, Kevin La was all smiles on the runway with his best friend Pebbles Tsai. With thousands of places to visit the runway was taking you around the world like Russia, Texas, Egypt, Italy, Japan and much more.
As the crowing on its way, the competition was getting tough. So much talent and laughs were left on the stage when senior, Jeremy Thatcher, performed an interpreted dance as well as freshman Jonathan Flores dancing to Napoleon Dynamite. Then came a vocal performance by junior Josh Hervey performing on his guitar to the song “Fix You” by Coldplay along with senior Anthony Camarillo strumming on his ukulele. Junior Gabriel Arellano had a unique talent that had all Harry Potter fan in awe as he played the Harry Potter theme song on the xylophone.
With 17 boys in the running only one could be on top. The 2014 Mr. Bulldog Pageant: The Man Behind the Mystery is senior, Jeremy Thatcher!
