The Hunger Games:Catching Fire soundtrack just recently became available for purchase. The soundtrack covers a variety of music but solely leans towards an indie and mainstream vibe.
The music itself can interpret what the movie holds. For example, “Atlas” by Coldplay sets a reassuring mood of realizing that the weight of the world is sitting on your shoulders and that standing for yourself and for others is your only option, much like the situation Katniss is involved in.
In comparison, Christina Aguilera plays a role in the mainstream music, leaving her remarkable vocals to illustrate the emotions in the film with her song “We Remain.”
Like any other soundtrack, the list of music correlates to the fans’ likings. With hit sensation Lorde providing her cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”
Other artists, such as Patti Smith, also idolize the movie as she includes a whispering voice in her song, saying, “Katnissssss” for fans to get even more thrilled than they already are for the premier.
In all the mix of things, leaving Imagine Dragons and Ellie Goulding out of the soundtrack wouldn’t identify itself as the movie’s soundtrack.
Imagine Dragons’ “Who We Are” provides a clear statement that would come from a District 12 representative. Within Ellie Goulding’s song “Mirror,” she establishes a connection with the movie. The use of her electronic rhythm and harmonizing voice is able to interpret Katniss’ inner thoughts and feelings in her own perspective. With the constant connection between the movie and the music, fans can buy the soundtrack and are able to look at different perspectives of the story through the songs. In a way, the soundtrack is able to capture specific details and emotion set during the movie.
