SAFE Club is currently undergoing a transition to be a more charitable organization, with plans for their next fundraiser in mind. After an Instagram post referring to important news of an upcoming change within the club, Peter Dien, president of SAFE, explained that the transition is to “take a more fundraiser and awareness approach.” In terms of finances, their fundraiser profits will be “going to more organizations that help the environment.” This is a move that is unique to SAFE Club, as it is one of the only clubs on campus that are enforcing this approach. The idea came after their first fundraiser: selling metal straws. However, this transformation will be prominent after the club does their upcoming fundraiser, as they sell stickers where the proceeds will be going to the organizations such as Red Cross, Victorian Bushfire Appeal, and many more that enrich the future generations.

The club also speaks on awareness towards the recent Australian fires that have occurred, exemplifying that climate change is nothing to ignore. Dien stresses that it’s more important than ever for students to “care because it is one of the massive signs that climate change is real.” In addition, he emphasized that the media “portrays climate change as something that can’t affect people, but now an entire country is suffering because of it.”

Advisor, Mr. Chen, is hopeful for the transition, saying that any changes will be pronounced after their aforementioned sticker fundraiser. While the plan is early in it’s execution phase, many look forward to the eventual progression of it. SAFE Club is proving itself to be a successful one. With many steps taken towards environmental health, the club differs itself from others around campus, employing a more “do than say” tactic that is sure to keep eyes on the club for a while.
