Many seniors will be attending college in the fall while others have chosen to enlist. Anna Hernandez will be one of those enlisting in the military after graduation.

“My brother inspired me to enlist in the military because he did four years in the Marines. The military paid for all his education and now he has a successful career. He has achieved so much because of the military and I want to do great things like him. I admire him for his courage and his diligence while he was in the service,” Hernandez said.

Enlisting is something one truly wants to do for a long time and has to exemplify immense bravery. “I actually wanted to join the police academy after high school but during my sophomore year, I began to think about the military and what it has to offer,” Hernandez said.

“For months, I have been preparing myself mentally and physically for the military. I get up every morning at 5 am regardless of what day it is and I work out because I know the military has great standards and I want to be prepared. Also, I have talked to various military members to inform me about their own experiences and what to expect,” Hernandez said.

The military offers many different specializations. After bootcamp, Anna plans to been an active duty military police for 2 years minimum and then air transportation for 2 years. She would also like to study while on base and work toward getting a degree in forensic science or law enforcement.

“My family supports my decision, they think that it’s a great opportunity for me to become independent as well as gaining good work ethics and truly what our military does for us civilians,” Hernandez said.
